A Book & Bran Muffins

August 22, 2008

I finished another one. Trying to get a bit ahead before the Fall term begins!

10.) Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler

Last night I baked these muffins from Vegan With a Vengeance. They’re Ginger Raisin Bran Muffins. Fiber-rific! The changes I made were: I subbed white whole wheat flour for the all-purpose (I figured I’d go all out in the roughage department), chopped the raisins up & didn’t soak them (the texture of soaked raisins seems just plain wrong), and I used brown sugar instead of white. They’re so good! I have really been making a lot from this cookbook lately, as I’ve neglected it for far too long.

This morning Ethan & I went to a church rummage sale down the road, because, in my experience, they’re usually full of fun stuff that isn’t overpriced. My sister is known for commenting on my tacky decor, so to go with the toothpick owl I got at Goodwill, I bought this mushroom thing. Its lid lifts off for storing salt, sugar, or whatever. I also got a bundt pan since I’ve never owned one, and well, it was only $1! I can’t wait to hear my sister’s reaction to the mushroom thing. Ethan thinks I bought it out of pure spite! Heh heh…

Nikki—Thank you. I’m glad I’m not the only one!

Yo Soy!—Me too! Plus, how could I not get it?—it was only 99 cents!

I would never call your owl and mushroom tacky. I think they are adorable!

Great score on the bundt pan. I don’t have one, but could never pass one up at that price.

Jennifer—Thank you! I agree on the bundt pan, and it’s especially hard to find ones that aren’t non-stick, which I’m leery of now.

Those cute little items make me think of shag carpet. Yeah Baby! (doing a very awful Austin Powers impression…)

    Virginia—Ha!
