Fun at Fubonn

June 14, 2008

Today, my friend and I went to Fubonn on 82nd, here in Portland. It’s a huge Asian mall, with a nice grocery store inside. Warning: it smells so seafood-y inside, so if you are unable to get past that, don’t go. They do have a ton of veg*n foods though, and the fried lemongrass tofu is worth the fish smell, in my opinion. You could always put some Vicks Vapor Rub under your nostrils, like they do in the autopsy scene of Silence of the Lambs.

Another bonus about Fubonn is that they carry vegetarian fish sauce, which is really good in stir fry or fried rice, whatever.

P.S. The coconut powder is for my sister, since she mentioned wanting some to me recently. It has sodium caseinate in it, so it’s not vegan.

This isn’t even everything I got!, but pictured are: sushi rice, inari sushi pouches, soba noodles, silken tofu, pineapple fried rice packet, spicy basil stir fry packet, mock pepper beef jerky, coconut milk powder, vegetarian tomyum paste, & agar powder.

Precious tofus of delight…

We also went to an awesome cake decorating supply store, and I bought some of those silver dragees, only to get home & find that they contained gelatin. Such total bullshit. I hope they aren’t all made with gelatin, because that would be depressing as hell.
